Season Preview – Catchers

Our second installment of the season preview will look at the Catching Unit.

Last season the Coyotes leaned heavily on their starting catcher, Jake Fischer (C, JR, Edmonton, AB). In his first two seasons, Fischer has a batting average of .304 in 48 games, 52 hits, 4 Homeruns and 34 RBI. He has become one of the leaders in the clubhouse and will be looked upon to lead both the offense and be the general on defense.

Also returning to the Coyotes catching unit is Jacob Holland (C, Soph, West Kelowna, BC). Holland was the backup catcher last season, playing in 6 games.

New to the team this year is transfer Sean Robbins (C, Soph, Edmonton, AB). He had spent his freshman season south of the border at Hill College in Texas before joining the Coyotes. Robbins will definitely improve the depth of the catching unit, bringing excellent defense, a reliable bat and a strong competitive attitude.

Rounding out the Catchers are Chris Vlaj (C, Fresh, Nanaimo, BC) and Connor McCurdy (C, Fresh, Medicine Hat, AB). Both were a part of the Coyotes last season. They will both look to compete for innings and help the Coyotes win a championship.
