OC Sweeps Weekend, Move to 12-4

The Okanagan College Coyotes had a huge weekend as they swept the four game set against the Vancouver Island University Mariners to move their record to 12-4, and still sit in second place just behind Thompson Rivers University.

In game one, Senior Pitcher Trevor Brigden was almost untouchable as he would take a perfect game into the 7th inning before issuing a walk and a hit. He would end his outing striking out 15 batters in 7 innings allowing 2 runs on one hit. Brigden is now 5-0 with a 1.50 ERA and has 44 strikeouts in 24 innings. In relief, Sophomore Gavin Barret would pitch the last two innings allowing one run on 2 hits. Offensively, Sophomore Trevor Mlait and Freshmen Nolan King and Brendan Luther would all have 3 hits. King would blast his first career college homerun and would have 2 RBI. Senior Jeremy Buckley would also hit his first career college homerun, which  Freshman Tyler Monks would also have 2 RBI. OC would have a total of 15 hits in the game and would win by a 10-5 score.

Trevor Brigden

In game two, Luther and King would continue to hit well as they would both go 3 for 4 and Senior Jake Fischer would add two hits as well. Freshman pitcher Nick Lee, would throw 5 solid innings allowing no runs, 4 hits and striking out 5 on his way to earning his first college win. In relief, Freshman Jayden Clayton would throw 2 innings allowing 3 runs on 6 hits and struck out 3 while fellow freshman Nic Taylor would close the door throwing 2 innings allowing just one run on 4 hits and struck out 2. Coyotes would win 9-4.

Nolan King

Game three would see the Coyotes continue to score runs as they would take the game 6-2. Luther, Mlait and Junior Noah Wood-Jolivet would all have 2 hits and Freshman Massimo Peranio would hit a 2-run double. Starting pitcher Sophomore Chris Wyslobocki would have another solid outing going 6.1 innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits and striking out 7.  Sophomore Alex Dawson would take over on the mound going 2.2 innings allowing no runs and just one hit. Dawson has yet to give up a run this season in 13.2 innings. OC would win the game 6-2.

Chris Wyslobocki

In the final game, OC would look to get the sweep and would send Sophomore Jesse Poniewozik to the mound and he would throw 6 good innings allowing 2 earned runs on 4 hits and struck out 6. IN relief, Freshman Brett Reid would throw one inning allowing 2 hits and striking out one and Freshman Austin Brown would finish the game throwing 2 innings allowing no runs and no hits and striking out 5. Offensively, the Coyotes would score 10 runs on 8 hits taking advantage of their opportunities. Fischer would go 2 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI. Buckley and Peranio would also have 2 hits and 2 RBI each. Coyotes would win the game 10-3.

Jesse Poniewozik

The Coyotes blasted 31 hits in the series scoring 35 runs. The pitching staff continued to have strong outings as they now have 178 strikeouts in 145 innings and have a 2.05 ERA.

Next up for the Coyotes will be 2 games at TRU on Wednesday and then they will travel to Calgary to face the University of Calgary Dinos starting on Friday.
