The “Red-Black” game will give Head Coach Geoff White his first look at the 40 players he has in camp. “We’re excited about this group,” said White. “We got a lot of new faces and a lot of returning guys, so I think we have a dynamic group this year.”
Coach White returns 15 players from a season ago, including the veteran leadership of Bryan Elias, Garrett Weise and Zach Burlon. “We depend on those guys to lay it out for some of the younger players on how we go about our business and how we compete and the level that they need to be at to be successful. So the returning guys are obviously a valuable asset for us.”
The Coyotes have recruited players from across the country and as far away as Nova Scotia as Troy Fisher enters his sophomore year.
The ‘Yotes will play 45 games this fall, 41 of which at Elks Stadium. All the games in the fall season are exhibition games which will give Coach White and his coaching staff a very good indication of how the Coyotes will play during the spring season.
From October 2-4, the Coyotes will host a seven team tournament at Elks Stadium involving five other programs. The Coyotes will split their team into two, as will the TRU Wolfpack and the University of Calgary Dinos. The Okanagan Athletics will also participate in the tournament.
Game one of the fall season is tonight at 6:30pm at Elks Stadium. Then the club will play two intersquad games on Sunday beginning at 4:00pm.
